An event to select outstanding teaching cases by students of primary education and outstanding cases of collective activities for preschoolers by students of preschool education, the first of the kind at the Open University of China (OUC), concluded successfully in Beijing.
The event, which aimed to further deepen teaching reform, improve the quality of education, and implement the basic task of cultivating talented, moral people, was officially launched in April 2019. After eight months, it was concluded on 17 November 2019.
The event received great attention and support from the OUC branches and colleges. After several preliminary rounds, 46 outstanding teaching cases selected from the Primary school Education major by 23 OUC branches and 77 outstanding cases selected from the Pre-school Education major by 29 OUC branches participated in the selection event held at the OUC headquarters.
On 9 November and from 16 to 17 November, the selection event was successfully held at the OUC’s Wukesong campus. The expert evaluation group from the headquarters was composed of distance education experts, discipline experts, teaching and research personnel, and elite teachers.
According to the evaluation standards, the expert group carefully evaluated the works based on the conditions and commented on each case. A total of five first prizes, 15 second prizes, and 26 third prizes were appraised for the Primary Education major, with three awards for best teaching design, best teaching plan presentation , and best teaching respectively. From the Pre-school Education major, 10 first prizes, 20 second prizes, 29 third prizes, and 18 recognition prizes were appraised, and three awards were granted for best teaching design, best teaching, and best interaction by kindergarten teachers respectively. Based on publicity work, the organisation of preliminary competitions, and the submission of materials by the divisions, five best organisation awards were awarded for to both the Primary school and Pre-school education majors. The excellent cases will be showcased on the OUC portal.
The activity demonstrated the teaching conditions of students majoring in primary and pre-school education, and played an important role in promoting the professional growth of teachers and students and improving the teaching quality. Relevant responsible personnel from the OUC Faculty of Education said that it would continue to actively explore education and strive to build a respected university with the goal of improving content, ensuring quality, and polishing the OUC brand.
