In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the National Conference on Teaching Work, promote the basic task of cultivating talents with morality, improve the construction quality of politics and law majors, and enhance the quality of training and teaching in these majors, the Faculty of Political Science and Law of the Open University of China (OUC) held a teaching work conference and seminar for politics and law majors in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, from 12-14 November 2019.
Liu Xianghong, deputy secretary of the Party committee and secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection, 94 persons responsible for teaching departments, and directors and teachers of the relevant majors from 41 branches and schools around China attended the meeting, which was presided over by Gu Xiaohua, deputy director of the Faculty of Political Science and Law.
In his speech at the meeting, Liu Xianghong said that he hopes that the teachers in the national OUC system can unite and face difficulties and problems together, overcome the various difficulties that arise during the development of open education, and join hands to do a good job in building politics and law majors. Liu Xianghong put forward four requirements for the meeting: to learn, understand, and implement the spirit of the National Conference on Teaching Work; to make progress and breakthroughs in the implementation of ideological and political education in courses; to improve and deepen the construction of online teaching teams; and to learn from each other's experience and practices, and to promote excellence and quality in the politics and law majors. In view of the future work of the politics and law majors, Liu Xianghong pointed out that the concept of "quality" should be firmly established; politics and law majors should be made into recognisable “branded majors”; both the headquarters and branches should successfully implements major construction, curriculum construction, and support services; and teachers should improve their teaching, academic research, and management abilities.
Chen Xianqiang, vice president of the OUC Guangdong Branch, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Liu jingduo, director of the OUC Faculty of Political Science and Law, gave a speech entitled "Scientific Research: A Path for Workplace Satisfaction for Teachers.”
Gu Xiaohua gave a report with the theme of "Implementing the Spirit of the National Conference on Teaching Work and Successfully Carrying out Politics and Law Teaching,” which conveyed the spirit of the National Conference on Teaching Work, and put forward ideas, methods and requirements for the implementation of the spirit of the conference in politics and law majors in the future. Liu Chaoqiu from the Guangdong Branch reported on the construction of the branch’s online teaching team; Wen Jingfang from the Dalian Branch shared the practice and design of ideological and political education for courses; and Wu Shijie from the Ningbo Branch shared the branch’s practice and experience of actively expanding the space for development of the administrative management and law majors with the title of “The Exploration and Practice of a "Three-in-One" School Running Model at Ningbo Auxiliary Police College.”
The participants exchanged views and discussed the three themes of "Real and Practical Measures for Implementing the Spirit of the National Conference on Teaching Work", "Problems in Implementing Ideological and Political Education in Courses and Their Countermeasures,” and "Suggestions and Opinions for Promoting the Construction of Online Teaching Teams.”
