On November 11th of 2013, a program called “OUC Open Forum” debuted on CETV1. The “Science and China — Academicians and Experts Lecture” Series was included in the show. The lecture series were jointly planned and launched by the OUC and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The broadcast time happened to coincide with the first anniversary of the signing of the cooperation agreement. The occasion  marked the win-win cooperation through which both sides’ advantages have been fully exerted fully and both have made substantial progress under their mutual efforts.

The themes of the “OUC Open Forum” cover three main subjects: culture, science & technology, and people’s lives. While selecting themes for the show, OUC insisted on the principle that only the highest quality, most professional, university-suitable topics could be used. The program is a kind of open set of telecourses for colleges and universities that incorporates modern communication media, including TV, networks and new media and has been comprehensively applied.  The OUC has gathered many excellent social resources and expended two years of its effort. The program airs from 7:10 to 8:00 am, Monday to Friday. The broadcast schedule will be unveiled in the near future on the OUC’s websites, including its portal website and others, aiming to improve the OUC’s academic atmosphere, enhance academic status and express the philosophy of openness and diversification that forms the basis for building an image of the modern OUC.

The producer of the “OUC Open Forum” is Vice President Yan Bing, and those responsible for the design and implementation of the plan, and producing the actual video mainly come from the Teaching Resources Management Department and Audio and Multimedia Press. In addition to the “Science and China — Academicians and Experts Lecture” series, the lecture series “Famous People from Ancient Chinese Culture” will also be unveiled. The series have been adapted based on the quality of the telecourses are produced by the Central Radio and TV University in the 1980s. Its content covers such fields as astronomical calendars, the patriarchal clan system and social rites, and metal, stone, calligraphy and painting. The speakers include respected academics, such as Wang Li, Qi Gong, Tan Qixiang, Ren Jiyu and Yang Bojun. The “Auditorium of the OUC” will also introduce a lecture series surrounding the three main subjects of culture, science and technology and people’s lives, including “Ability to be Happy”, “The Earth’s Kidney—Wet Land”, and “The Beauty of the Art of Peking Opera”.
