According to “MOE’s Decision about Approving 2014 Award Winning Projects of State-level Teaching Achievement” (No. 8, Teachers, 2014), two of the OUC’s teaching projects have won state-level awards. According to the terms set forth in the “Regulation on Teaching Achievement Awards” published by the State Council, a total of 1,320 projects have been approved in 2014 by the State Council to win state-level teaching achievement awards, among which five projects were evaluated as worthy of special awards for state-level teaching achievements, 148 were awarded first prizes, and 1,167 awarded second prizes.
“Construction and Practice of Modern Distance Education Public Service System”, created by Zhao Min, Yang Zhijian, Yan Bing, Li Guobin, and Chen Mujing, from the OUC, was selected to be among those awarded the second prize in the 2014 state-level teaching achievement award for the higher education sector.
“Exploration of Reform and Development Practice of Vocational Foreign Language Education”, created by Liu Dailin, Xu Xiaozhen, Ding Guosheng, Zheng Yangcheng, Yang Wenming, and Niu Jian from the OUC, Shenzhen Polytechnic, Hebei Vocational College of Foreign Languages, and Taiyuan Institute of Electrical Engineering, was selected to be among those awarded the second prize in the 2014 state-level teaching achievement award.
“Exploration and Practice of Learner Formation Model Reform after the Transition of Industrial Vocational Colleges”, created by Liu Guosheng, Jiang Xinge, Liu Yi, Ma Renting, Ouyang Enjian, and Zhou Shiping from Guangzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College and Panyu RTVU of Guangzhou, was also selected for the second prize in the 2014 state-level teaching achievement award in the vocational education sector.
The direction to organize such awards points out that carrying out teaching achievement awards around the country is an important aspect of implementing the strategy of revitalizing the nation through science and education; it is a kind of inspection and demonstration of learner formation, teaching, and education reform, and a way to measure results at all levels and in all sorts of schools. It emphasizes the fact that the Party and the state attach a great deal of value to teaching and education. The prize winning projects showcase creative results gained through many years of hard work by dedicated educators within the education system, performing their duties in their own teaching posts, thereby reflecting the significant progress and achievements obtained in teaching and learner formation, embodying rigor and diligence in teaching and educational reform shown by the majority of teachers in our country. It is hoped that the winning groups and individuals will cherish these honors and continue to work hard to achieve similar results in the future.
Meanwhile, during the 2013-2014 school year, the OUC’s teachers actively participated in educational reform related to key points in university construction and have achieved outstanding results in curricula, construction of teaching material resources, and scientific research. Eight courses, including “Economic Mathematics Base”, are rated as “State-level Excellent Resource Sharing Course (Online Education Course)”. Eight courses, including “Secretarial Practice”, are rated as “2013 Excellent Teaching Materials of Beijing”. Three courses, including “Modern Chinese Special Subject”, are rated as “2014 Excellent Courses of the OUC”. “Construction and Practice of Distance Education Public Service System” and “Practice and Exploration of Sergeancy Distance Education Model — ‘6N51’ Education System Innovation in Integration of the Army and Civilians” have separately won the first prize and the second prize in the seventh teaching achievement awards of higher education of Beijing in 2013. “Development Research Report on China Distance Higher Education (2012)” and “Structure Research on Our Country’s Higher Engineering Continuing Education” have won the first prize of excellent investigative reporting in the ninth China adult education outstanding scientific research achievements evaluation. Five theses, including “Open Universities’ Mechanism and System Research in our Country”, won the first prize for excellent thesis. Du Ruo, from the Department of Learning Resources Management, has been awarded as an “Advanced Individual in 2013 Higher Education Teaching Materials Construction of Beijing” and Li Jing, from the Development and Planning Departmen, has been awarded as an “Advanced Individual in 2013 Education Statistics Work of Beijing”.
