In order to comprehensively study and implement the guidelines of the 20th National Congress of the CPC and enhance the educational, teaching, and research capabilities of our teachers, the Open University of China (OUC) organized 47 educators to participate in two thematic workshops titled "Coordinated Development of Higher Education Teachers in Teaching and Research" and "Teaching Design and Ability Enhancement for Integration of Ideological Education into Professional Courses" from 18th to 22nd July 2023. These workshops were held in accordance with the relevant requirements of The Construction Plan for OUC’s Teaching Team.

Tian Suxia, vice dean of the Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development, graced the opening ceremony of the workshop. During her address, Tian emphasized the crucial significance of the thematic workshop in the context of advancing teaching reform and fostering high-quality development in open education. She also shared her hopes and expectations for the participants.

The two-session workshops offered a diverse range of formats and enriched content, featuring thematic sharing, live teaching demonstrations, and team learning. In the workshop themed "Teaching Design and Ability Enhancement for Integration of Ideological Education into Specialty Courses," distinguished professors from Tsinghua University shared their insights on design concepts, techniques, and methods for integrating ideological education into professional courses. They also discussed construction practices and the application of model lessons. These notable professors included Li Jiao, a recipient of the "Chang Jiang Scholars Programme" certified by the Minister of Education, Yang Jing, who earned the title of "Good Teacher and Friend of Students" awarded by Tsinghua University, Mou Peng, an esteemed recipient of the "Bao-steel Excellent Teacher" award, as well as Ban Huiyong and Meng Ke, both first-prize winners of the National Teaching Competition for Young Teachers at Tsinghua University.

At the workshop themed “Coordinated Development of Higher School Teachers in Teaching and Research”, presentations on topics of“The Art of Balance, Teaching and Research”, “Academic Competency and Ethics of Higher School Teachers”, ”Transmission and Creation of Teaching Practices at Tsinghua University”, “Student-centered Hybrid Teaching Reform Practices”, “Keys to Successful Research Project Application”, “How to Build a Good Course” and “Design of Progressive and Interactive Courses based on Knowledge Creation”have been shared respectively by scholars, including Li Yanmei, a “Famous Teacher” certified by the “National High-Level Talents Special Support Programme ”, Zhang Xiaoyuan, a winner of the first prize of Excellent Achievement in Natural Science Research at Higher Schools awarded by the Minister of Education, Zhu Yongfa, a “Trans-Century talent” certified by the Minister of Education and excellent young scholar who has secured the Youth Fund sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation Commission, Mou Peng, responsible for several national-level scientific research projects, Meng Ke, a first-prize winner of the National Teaching Competition for Young Teacher, and Yao Xiaoling, a professor from Beihang University.

The training provided the participants with a firsthand experience of interacting with top-class scientists, renowned national-level teachers, and young talents, allowing them to truly appreciate their charm and brilliance. The participants also expressed that they gained a more comprehensive and profound understanding of the theme of multidisciplinary coordinated development of teaching and research. Topics like the Competency and Ethics of New Era's Higher School Teachers, Practices in the Reform of Specialty Teaching, and Integrated Course Design and Construction left a lasting impact on their perspectives.
