In order to effectively implement the thematic education campaign on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and to promote the high-quality development of education and teaching in the fields of agriculture and medicine, as well as to cultivate a proficient faculty in these areas, the First Assembly Meeting & Workshop on Enhancing the Teaching Abilities of Agroforestry and Medicine Youth Teachers was organised by the Agroforestry and Medicine Sub-committee of the OUC Academic Committee.
The event took place in Zhengzhou, Henan Province from 14th to 15th June 2023. Distinguished attendees included Professor Li Xiaoming, vice president of Henan Open University (OU); Lin Xiazhen, director of the Agroforestry and Medicine Sub-committee; Li Jun, deputy director of the Agroforestry and Medicine Sub-committee; other members of the Agroforestry and Medicine Sub-committee; Li Wei, secretary general of the Academic Committee; Zhao Tingting, vice dean of the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College); Wang Qian, dean of the Rural Revitalisation College at Henan OU, as well as representatives of young teachers from the OUC system.
During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the Agroforestry and Medicine Sub-committee's accomplishments in 2022 was conducted, and an action plan for 2023 was formulated through constructive discussions. Li Xiaoming shared the valuable insights and successful endeavors of Henan OU in implementing the Ministry of Education's "One College Student Per Village" programme. He highlighted the establishment of a renowned talent development brand in rural revitalization in Henan, along with efforts to strengthen the teaching staff and enhance educational standards. Li Xiaoming extended a warm welcome to the Agroforestry and Medicine Sub-committee for future research collaboration at Henan OU.
Li Wei acknowledged the commendable endeavors undertaken by the Agroforestry and Medicine Sub-committee in advancing and coordinating the growth of disciplines and subjects. She emphasized the importance of reinforcing unity and collaboration within the sub-committee while harnessing the collective strength of the OUC system. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of enhancing academic capabilities within open universities as a foundation for further enhancing the research and teaching standards within agricultural and medical disciplines.
Zhao Tingting expressed the commitment to expedite the construction of the OUC using the development pattern characterised by "one body with two wings," "driven by two wheels," "pulled by three carriages," and "four platforms." She emphasized the need to seize the opportunities presented by the six major projects, integrate the pursuit of high-quality development in open education with the new endeavors of the Chinese path to modernization, and continually enhance the adaptability of talent training in open education.
Professor Gao Suling, director of the Department of Research Foreign Affairs at Henan Vocational College of Agriculture, presented a thematic report titled "Preparing for Teacher Teaching Ability Competition in Practice." During the presentation, she shared valuable insights and experiences gained from preparing for teacher teaching ability competitions in vocational colleges. The report covered five key aspects, including an overview of the competition, the selection of competition content, design considerations, task implementation, and overall execution.
Wang Yan and Cao Qinzheng, young teachers from the OUC headquarters, along with Liu Shuping and Zhang Shaowei, young teachers from Henan OU, shared their practical teaching and research experiences as agricultural and medical educators within the open university system. Their insightful presentations covered various topics, including digital teaching skills, the BOPPPS teaching method, the professional growth of young teachers, and the mutually beneficial relationship between scientific research and teaching.
All participants also conducted an on-site inspection and research visit to Luoyang Open University. They engaged in discussions with the management, teachers, and students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the real conditions of frontline education. Actively addressing questions and attentively listening to suggestions, they fostered a productive exchange of ideas.
