Recently, the Publicity Department of Liaoning Provincial Party Committee, Liaoning Provincial Office of Spiritual Civilisation, and Liaoning Provincial Poverty Alleviation Office awarded 10 comrades in Liaoning Province with the title of “Liaoning Good Men: Heroes of Poverty Alleviation.” Comrade Liu Jiancheng from Liaoning Open University (Liaoning OU) was one of the honourees.

The Party Committee of Liaoning OU attaches great importance to poverty alleviation. In 2018, 10 cadres were sent to 10 different villages in Liaoyang County to serve as first secretaries. Comrade Liu Jiancheng was among the cadres, appointed as first secretary of Liuliuhao Village, Liuhao Town, Liaoyang County. After taking office, he devoted himself to poverty alleviation in the countryside. He did a good job in the fight against poverty and developed the village with fruitful results.

Since he started work in the village, he has actively coordinated a total of more than RMB 5 million of financial support for industrial development with the goal of poverty alleviation and the expansion of the village collective economy. The money invested in Liuhao wetland, a national 3A scenic spot and a provincial key wetland reserve, has helped to increase the economic income of the village collective by over RMB 150,000 annually.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked on the front line of the fight against the epidemic, paid close attention to poor families’ production and lifestyle needs, contacted the civil affairs department for the distribution of temporary relief funds, and coordinated with benevolent enterprises to promote the sales of over 600 tons of unsaleable eggs for farmers.

Now, Liu Jiancheng has been awarded the title of “Liaoning Good Man: Hero of Poverty Alleviation,” which once again demonstrated the positive image of the cadres assigned by Liaoning OU for poverty alleviation purposes. Liaoning OU hopes that the university's leaders, faculty, and staff will pay homage to, learn from, and work hard to become effective leaders in eradicating poverty and vigorously create a strong atmosphere of caring for, supporting, and participating in poverty alleviation, so as to provide strong spiritual motivation for a comprehensive victory in the battle for poverty alleviation.
