In the teaching ability competition of the 2020 National Vocational Student Skills Competition, held in Zhuzhou, Hunan province from 9 to 12 December 2020 and sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Open University of China (OUC) won an outstanding contribution award for its technical support for the competition, which received high praise from the MOE Department of Vocational and Adult Education. Li Linshu, vice president of the OUC, was invited to attend the competition.
According to the work deployment of the National Vocational Student Skills Competition, the OUC Digital Learning Resources Centre has committed to providing technical support services for the competition for the past 10 years, engaging in website operation and maintenance, online registration, uploading materials, online evaluation, on-site competition support, and related data management. The OUC Digital Learning Resources Centre has upgraded the system every year to adapt to the new requirements of the competition according to MOE requirements, reviewed the online registration materials, and provided environmental support and technical services for the online evaluation of the competition. During the on-site competitions, the centre was responsible for statistical summaries and on-site scoring of the entries through the online system, as well as sharing the resources of the winning works of the competition. In addition, it also held a number of information-based teaching design exchange seminars to discuss the theory, model, and method of information-based teaching with teachers from vocational colleges all over the country so as to improve the teaching level. The teachers participating in the seminars have achieved good results in the competition over the years.
The aim of the competition is to thoroughly implement the Implementation Plan for National Vocational Education Reform, the Implementation Plan for Reforming and Deepening the Construction of “Double Qualified” Teachers in Vocational Education in the New Era, and the Action Plan for Improving Quality and Creating Excellence in Vocational Education (2020-2023), as well as deepening the reform of teachers, teaching materials, and teaching methods. It also aims to adhere to the principle of “promoting teaching, learning, reform, and construction through competition,” guide colleges, schools, and teachers to make moral education a fundamental task, and promote the “Three Types of Education,” namely, education for all members of society, education with comprehensive procedures, and all-round education, and implement the requirements of “ideological and political education in courses.” 267 teams from 34 provinces, cities, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government participated in the final competition.
