About Cui Chendi:
Cui Chendi is a nurse in the Dushanzi District People's Hospital of Karamay City, and she has been a Nursing undergraduate at Kuitun Radio and TV University, Xinjiang, since September 2018.

The intensive-care unit, where life is in close proximity to death, is the place where Cui Chendi has committed herself to working. She is a nurse in the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the Dushanzi People's Hospital in Karamay City, and was a front-line combatant against Covid-19. As a member of the Communist Party, she does not allow herself to retreat or to give up a life easily; she knows that every life is valuable to that person’s family.

During her 42 days and nights in the Wuhan temporary hospital, she was busy every day, wrapped in airtight protective clothing, shuttling among the wards, answering patient questions, and even leading them in Xinjiang dances to alleviate their anxiety. Learning that she was from Xinjiang, they would express their appreciation that she had come so far to help, and their regret at having caused so much trouble. For Cui Chendi, all Chinese are one, regardless of ethnicity, and must support each other. She and her colleagues raced against time every day, struggling to save their patients. In the end they fulfilled their mission, and the virus was defeated.

Cui Chendi was able to leave Wuhan on 17 March. However, in July, Covid-19 returned in Xinjiang, and she once again went to the front lines, this time with a team of six volunteers. She was calmer than before, and her experience in Wuhan proved valuable.

Cui Chendi’s duties now included observation and assessment of patients, communication and feeding, turning them over and massaging their backs, and giving them sponge baths. She was even more serious and careful in her work than usual. One day, a patient of around 50, with high blood pressure, was in low spirits because his family couldn't visit, and Cui took it upon herself to keep him company. His mood improved, and he felt healthier as well. He asked his wife to thank her, and she gave Cui a call to do so. Cui replied that it was her pleasure and her duty, and from this we can see how she gave her heart and soul to every patient. After more than 50 days and nights in Xinjiang, Cui Chendi and her colleagues were able to return to Dushanzi on 14 September.

Cui Chendi, like tens of thousands of other medical personnel, endured the discomfort of wearing thick protective clothing, took on the risk of contracting the disease, and gave up time with her family in order to help others. She is one of the true heroes of the battle against Covid-19.
