“Internet Plus Education Innovation Research,” a key academic book series launched by the Open University of China (OUC) Press, was published in June 2020. The book series was included in the national key book publishing planning project in the 13th Five-year Plan in 2017 and was funded by the National Publication Foundation in 2020.
The OUC Press planned the series of research books on internet plus education innovation based on important documents including the “Outline of China’s National Plan for Medium and Long Term Educational Reform and Development (2010 to 2020),” the “Ten-year Development Plan for Education Informatisation (2011 to 2020),” and “Guiding Opinions of the State Council on Actively Promoting the Internet Plus Action.” The documents have had far reaching impacts on the direction of educational reform. The research books focus on key issues in the development and innovation of educational informatisation in China, paying close attention to the revolutionary changes to the online education and life-long learning industry brought about by big data, cloud computing, education data mining and learning analysis, open education resources, and MOOCs. The series integrates the latest research results with education and teaching practice in an in-depth way. It emphasises the connection between learning and application so as to boost the reform and innovation of “Internet Plus Education.”
A total of 19 books in the series have been published, with Zhu Zhiting, former dean and professor of the Network School of East China Normal University, and Yang Xiaotang, vice president and researcher of the OUC, as chief editors. The authors of the books, including experts and scholars with great influence in the field of international distance education and educational technology, as well as authors and translators from other universities in China, are mostly from the OUC system. The series fully demonstrates the OUC’s leading role in the implementation of educational information technology in online education and academic research projects, as well as in the translation of academic monographs. It also shows the unique, positive results of the OUC system’s recent explorations of the development of educational technology and online education, as well as its focus on online education, MOOCs, cognitive science, computer science, artificial intelligence technology, mobile Internet development, augmented reality, and virtual reality.

The Internet Plus Education Innovation Research series has the following five characteristics. First, it includes the latest international research achievements in cognitive science, computer science, artificial intelligence technology, and mobile Internet development, providing practical guidance for the reform and innovation of Internet Plus Education. Second, it analyses the role of new online learning technology represented by MOOCs in educational reform and innovation.
