During the outbreak of COVID-19, the Calligraphy Association of the Wuhan Branch of the Open University of China (OUC) organised a creative calligraphy activity with the theme of “Solidarity in Fighting the Epidemic,” expressing their blessings and affection for Wuhan and cheering on all of those who have joined the battle.

Professor Li Jianqiang, the guiding teacher for the activity, said, “We are not separated from the fight, we are fighting with our pens.” His words moved the members of the Calligraphy Association. Over sixty works were created using different styles such as seal characters, clerical script, running script, and regular script. The powerful strokes of each character show the writers’ feelings and ideas towards fighting the epidemic, portraying their resolution, their faith in achieving the final victory, and their respect for those fighting on the front lines of the epidemic. The staff and students from the from Wuhan Branch hope to use their art to inspire people to pull together and have the spirit to fight against the epidemic.

Professor Ma Feng, secretary of the Party Committee of the Wuhan Branch, noted that the activity not only passed on the traditional art of Chinese calligraphy, but also fostered the students’ love and devotion for their family and country. Their inspiring art works have created a lot of positive energy to further strengthen our faith to defeat the epidemic.
