In order to implement the epidemic prevention and control work deployed by the Central Party Committee and State Council, and respond to the Ministry of Education’s call for educational institutions to “offer online learning after the postponement of the spring semester” to help both teachers and students to avoid the risk of spreading COVID-19 during offline classes, the Open University of China (OUC) is working with three domestic internet giants, Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent, to launch activities with the theme of “ceaseless learning, epidemic without fear.”
It will offer free quality AI online resources by relying on the advantages of the OUC’s “Internet plus university” school-running system, as well as the rich course resources accumulated by famous internet companies in the AI area.
Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent have provided free online learning resources for the activities, which include AI scientific popularisation courses for absolute beginners, full stack courses for programming languages such as Python, and special courses covering cutting-edge technologies such as in-depth learning, virtual reality, human-computer interaction, unmanned automobiles, blockchain, and the internet of things, all of which allow learners to experience the charm of AI at home. The learners can get access to the OUC cloud classes (http://www.ouc-online.com.cn) via desktop, tablet or mobile phone. The first batch of Baidu AI application courses have been tested and will be offered to the public in early February 2020.
In the future, the OUC will continue to exert its advantages as an online education provider by integrating educational resources from top internet companies and expand the area of cooperation in terms of courses, teaching resources, training, and certification so as to positively build a new technology leaning ecology that can contribute to the cultivation of AI professionals in China.
