In order to further deepen the reform of education and teaching, comprehensively improve the quality of teaching, exchange experience, gather consensus, and effectively promote the construction and reform of economics and management majors, from 12-13 December 2019, the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Open University of China (OUC) held a seminar on the teaching work of majors related to economics and management in Haikou City, Hainan Province.

Lin Yu, vice president of the OUC, Wen Qiang, president of the OUC Hainan Branch, and more than 80 heads of economics and management teaching departments from 39 branches all over the country attended the meeting.


Vice president Lin Yu gave a special report on "Deepening Teaching Reform and Improving Teaching Quality,” in which he elaborated on four aspects including the state’s latest requirements for education, the Ministry of Education’s control of different types of education, understandings of open education and governance, and the future reform of open education. Lin Yu hopes that teachers from all economics and management majors will actively expand the practice and experience of the reform of majors and curricula, conscientiously summarise their teaching experiences, and make pioneering explorations of education and teaching reform for the OUC.

Liu Zhimin, director of the OUC Faculty of Economics and Management, gave a special report on the work of the faculty and its future tasks, objectives, and requirements. The directors of the School of Accounting, the School of Business Administration, and the School of Finance reported on the current situation and future work plan of their respective schools.

During the meeting, the results of the awards for the Seventh Activity for the Selection of Excellent Theses by Teachers of Economics and Management, the First Outstanding Thesis Selection Activity for Quantitative Economics, and the Business Administration Fourth Case Design and Analysis Competition were announced and awards were granted for best organisation work in the two activities. Representatives of the award-winning authors of the papers reported on the content of their papers, the use of research tools, and the research methods and exchanged views in discussions with the participating teachers.


The participants discussed four themes: “Ideological and Political Construction and Implementation in Various Specialty Economics and Management Courses,” "Open Education Teaching Models in the Internet + Era,” "Problems Faced by Units Applying for Master Degree Conferral,” and "How to Improve the Scientific Research Level and Scientific Research Abilities of Teachers Engaged in Economics and Management in Open Universities.” The representatives at the meeting said that it offered substantial content, gathered the consensus and efforts of the participants, and reflected innovative thinking, a pragmatic work style, and a high spirited outlook. Teachers from all of the branches will make the effort to promote the reform of education and teaching, and make new and greater contributions to the development of economics and management majors in open universities.
