On 10 October 2019, a delegation of three persons including Li Long, deputy county chief of Qinglong County, Hebei Province, and He Zhanshi, president of Qinglong Radio and TV University (Qinglong RTVU/Vocational Education Centre), visited the Open University of China (OUC). A seminar was held between the delegation and responsible personnel from the OUC Office of Poverty Alleviation, Work Union, and Learning Resources Department (Digital Library).
He Zhanshi reported on the implementation of degree and non-degree education and the status of computer rooms, cloud classrooms, and the OUC Taofen Library constructed by the OUC Educational Project Targeted at Alleviating Poverty. He hopes that the OUC will continue to support Qinglong RTVU (Vocational Education Centre) and involve it in work related to the OUC’s credit bank pilot programme and 1+X certificates system in order to further consolidate the achievements of the educational poverty-alleviation project for the sustainable development of distance education and vocational education at Qinglong RTVU in the “Post Poverty-Alleviation Era”.
Li Long, deputy county chief of Qinglong County, offered his sincere thanks to the OUC for its long-term support for vocational education in Qinglong County. He said that the OUC Educational Project Targeted at Alleviating Poverty has cultivated a large number of talents who are willing to stay in their hometowns and are able to contribute to rural revitalisation as wealth-makers and management cadres. The project has provided indispensable human resources support for the County’s goal of “intensively alleviating poverty within three years.”
Relevant responsible personnel from OUC said that the OUC will carefully study the new demands of Qinglong RTVU and continue to support their work according to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and the general development goals of Qinglong distance and vocational education.
At the seminar, Qinglong RTVU (Vocational Education Centre) presented the OUC with a pennant.
For the purposes of implementing poverty-alleviation work in Qinglong County and Weixian County in Hebei Province, a designated MOE aid project, the OUC has incorporated Qinglong County and Wei County into its Educational Project Targeted at Alleviating Poverty with a budget input of more than RMB 6 million. As of September 2019, the OUC has provided funding of over RMB 3.8 million, directly benefiting 2,950 people.
