From 23 to 27 September 2019, the Open University of China (OUC) held the 1,914th seminar for backbone teachers from accounting majors for the purpose of strengthening the construction of the OUC teaching team as well as advancing the professional development of the teachers in order to improve their overall abilities.
Around seventy backbone teachers from accounting majors from both the OUC headquarters and branches participated into the seminar and completed the studies. Liu Chen, deputy secretary of the OUC Party committee, granted completion certificates to the participants.
The seminar consisted of three parts: ideological and political education for the management curriculum, major curriculum teacher training, and experience sharing and exchange. Professor Guo Jianxiao from Tianjin Foreign Studies University shared his teaching practice and research results regarding class teaching, fostering virtue through education, and ideological and political education with the participants. Professor Yang Youhong from Beijing Technology and Business University and Professors Geng Jianxin and Du Zifang from Renmin University of China gave lectures and shared their understandings of the teaching contents, pedagogy, and cutting-edge development of three courses, including Intermediate Financial Accounting, General Introduction to Accounting, and Principles of Statistics.
The participants all commented that the three-day seminar was well arranged and that they learned a lot from the training. Trainings such as these are related to the practical work of the open university, as well as learner development needs and new developments in the discipline. Teachers from different academic backgrounds from the branches took this opportunity to learn from others and they hope to use what they have learned to improve and optimise their teaching or management work.
