From 27-28 June 2019, a meeting of the Open University of China (OUC) Academic Degree Evaluation Committee was held in Beijing to review bachelor’s degrees to be granted in the 2019 spring semester. The meeting decided to award 2,406 graduates with OUC bachelor’s degrees, including Zhao Yu.
On 26 June, the sub-committee for the evaluation of degrees in Agriculture and Medicine held a video conference. On the morning of 27 June, seven degree evaluation sub-committees, including Literature, Law, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Science and Engineering, and Education held meetings in Beijing. Seventy-eight members from the eight degree evaluation sub-committees participated in meetings this semester. The sub-committees deliberated on and determined the list of undergraduates to be granted with bachelor's degrees proposed by their respective majors and discussed issues related to degree work in the majors.
The meeting of the OUC Academic Degree Evaluation Committee was held on the morning of 28 June. Yang Zhijian, chairman of the OUC Degree Evaluation Committee, chaired the meeting. Li Linshu, vice chairman, and members of the Degree Evaluation Committee, participated in the meeting, which was also attended by OUC vice president Lin Yu and the heads of the teaching departments. The meeting considered issues related to degree awarding and non-awarding reports submitted by the sub-committees. Ye Zhihong, director of the OUC Degree Affairs Office, gave a report on the pilot bachelor’s degree English examination.
A total of 2,575 undergraduate graduates applied for bachelor's degrees this semester. After examination and approval by the Degree Evaluation Committee, 2,406 graduates were awarded OUC bachelor's degrees. At the request of the OUC Degree Affairs Office and its sub-committees, the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee also passed the following items: firstly, improve the requirements for academic advisors and strengthen training for the purpose of helping students to enhance the quality of their theses; secondly, urge the academic degree evaluation committees in the branches to carefully review the application materials for academic degrees, as well as academic thesis.
