The first meeting of the Science and Engineering Sub-committee of the Second Academic Committee of the Open University of China (OUC) 2019 was held on 23-24 April 2019 in Dandong, Liaoning province.

The meeting took place online and offline simultaneously and was attended by eight committee members on-site and five committee members online, with some responsible personnel from the Faculty of Science and Engineering of the OUC headquarters sitting in.

During the meeting, in-depth discussions on issues including OUC key work points for 2019, the development of science and engineering majors, teaching reform, and political education were held. Through the exchanges, a number of essential issues in the school-running process were sorted out and a work plan for 2019 was formulated. The meeting mainly focused on the following five aspects: Firstly, strengthening the organisational construction of the science and engineering sub-committee. Secondly, exploring the establishment of a school-running model of in-depth cooperation between universities and enterprises and a customised learner development plan for enterprises. Thirdly, the research work that should be done on political education for science and engineering majors. Fourthly, the exploration of online teaching team organisations and a long-term mechanism for implementing the teaching process. Fifthly, the science and engineering sub-committee together with several branches should apply for a research centre from the OUC headquarters.
