Recently, after recommendations by organisations, expert evaluations, and the publication of a list of nominees, the campaign to solicit outstanding alumni of the Open University of China (OUC) was successfully concluded, and 469 were named "OUC Outstanding Alumnus".
2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU). Over that time, it has continuously adapted to the needs of the period, and trained a large number of outstanding talents. In order to publicise the contributions of our outstanding alumni and display the achievements that have resulted from the establishment of the CCRTVU, the OUC Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development sought to identify outstanding alumni to celebrate this anniversary: those with exceptional achievements and wide acclaim.
Over the course of the campaign, 485 such alumni were reported to the headquarters. They come from all walks of life, and include soldiers, police officers, entrepreneurs, writers, technical workers, Olympic world champions, public servants, and many others. Many are outstanding deputies to the National People's Congress; some have won honours such as the "National May Day Labour Medal" or been named "National Model Worker", "National March Eighth Red Flag Handler", "National Excellent Village Branch Secretary", and so on. Some are enthusiastic about public welfare, have been widely covered by the media, and had a great positive impact on society. Most of them have humble origins, and lifted themselves up through their own extraordinary performances.
The achievements of these outstanding OUC alumni are a result of the university's insistence on cultivation of talent as its core; they are the best demonstration of the quality of education at the OUC. Their outstanding deeds will surely inspire others, including teachers and students at the OUC, to work hard, pursue innovation and excellence, and contribute to society.
