On 22nd May, the Open University of China (OUC) held the 37th Session of its Professor Development Forum.

The forum is sponsored by the Education and Research Institute and co-organised by the OUC Faculty of International Language and Culture and the OUC Faculty of Science and Engineering. The forum attendees included OUC faculty and staff, along with representatives from Beijing Normal University, Beijing International Studies University, Higher Education Press, and FLTRP Online Co., Ltd. The two keynote speakers were associate professor Han Yanhui from the OUC Faculty of International Language and Culture and associate professor Wang Li from the OUC Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Han Yianhui’s speech was titled From SPOC to MOOC: Reflections on Computer-Assisted English Language Teaching Reform. It explored the construction and development history of the OUC’s well-recognised course Computer Assisted English Language, with a focus on the exploration of teaching reform and a reflection on the process of how the course was successfully launched on the MOOC platform www.icourse163.org.

Wang Li’s speech was titled When OUC Online Courses Meet the www.icourse163.org MOOC Platform. It described the OUC quality course Android Intelligent Programming and its operation on www.icorse163.org, and shared the concepts, methods, and techniques of developing online learning courses with the attendees.

The teachers’ reports were specific, rich in content, and put forward unique perspectives on the OUC’s development and the construction of online learning courses, as well as promoting the impact of the OUC through the MOOC platform and facilitating the mutual sharing of OUC quality courses. The well-presented speeches inspired an interactive Q&A with the audience.
