On 10th April 2018, Dalian Radio and Television University (Dalian RTVU) held the final of its first student English speech competition.

Five competitors from the affiliated school, the Changhai branch, and the Ganjingzi branch outperformed their twenty opponents in the preliminary contest and entered the final competition. Yu Guoxi, secretary of Dalian RTVU Party committee, Liu Xiping, vice president of Dalian RTVU, and other relevant responsible personnel, were present at the final competition.

The competition was divided into two sections: a speech on an assigned topic and answering questions based on pictures. The assigned topics were extensive, ranging from personal hobbies to their experience of English study to the transformations they have experienced after studying at the RTVU. All the competitors were well prepared and presented their speeches with feeling. In the second section, the contestants responded to the questions with resourcefulness and flexibility.

After over one hour of fierce competition, two first prizes, three second prizes, and six outstanding guidance teacher prizes were awarded. Prizes for outstanding organising units were also given to the affiliated school, the Changhai branch, and the Ganjingzi branch. Yu Guoxi presented certificates and plaques to the outstanding guidance teachers and outstanding organising units. Liu Xiping presented certificates to the winners.

A person in charge at Dalian RTVU said that the competition enriches students’ campus life, creates an atmosphere beneficial to English study, exhibits their English speech ability, and enhances their comprehensive ability to use English. It also accumulates experience for the exploration of featured English teaching practice activities.
