On the afternoon of 28thMarch, 2018, a seminar with the theme “Unity of Knowledge and Action,” jointly sponsored by the China Educational Tourism Alliance, the Faculty of Arts and Law of the Open University of China (OUC), and the Educational Tourism Work Committee of the China Red Culture Study Society, was held in the cloud classroom of the headquarters of the OUC.
Yang Xiuzhen of the China Educational Tourism Alliance hosted the meeting, and introduced educational tourism as a form of extracurricular education with natural advantages when it comes to teaching sport. She also stated that the face-to-face interaction among experts in the field would lead new concepts being created and new models explored, driving the development of educational tourism, and that in-depth discussions of how to integrate educational tourism with sport education would be undertaken during the seminar.
OUC vice president Liu Chen attended the seminar and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, introducing the OUC’s mission and operations. He said that, with the support of the community, the OUC had made considerable progress in its plan to assist specific social groups, and that in September of 2018 the OUC would launch its programme of degree education for the elderly, which might be developed into a new teaching model (“the young and the elderly”) of educational tourism.
The seminar lasted four hours, with extensive and in-depth discussions of sport education in educational tourism as well as related topics, and the presentation of a number of successful cases. Attendees included Li Yuxian, former head of the Educational Equipment and Development Research Centre of the Ministry of Education (MOE); Ji Jianjun, former deputy director of the MOE Department of International Cooperation and Exchange; Cai Minggang, executive chairman of the International Kung Fu Federation; He Meifang, manager of the Hongqiqu Scenic Area; Luo Pei, a professor at Tongcheng Educational Tourism; Cai Tuo of Xingchao International Sport Culture; Xu Peng, course-development project manager with the China Educational Tourism Alliance; Liu Jingduo, director of the OUC Faculty of Arts and Law, and a professor and doctoral supervisor; Sun Fuwan, director of the OUC News Centre, and a professor; Wang Chengxian, associate professor at the OUC; and others.
The topic of the next seminar was also announced as “Education Through Ecological Experience in Educational Tourism”.
