In June 2015, A Study on Korea National Open University, the first book of the World Open Universities Case Study Series, was published by the China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU, aka The Open University of China, OUC) Press, which symbolizes the launch of the publication of the World Open Universities Case Study Series, the OUC’s “12th Five Year Plan” national key book publication planning programme.
The World Open Universities Case Study Series (hereinafter the Series) is the first large-scale book in China to focus on the systematic introduction and study of the history, state and future development of world open universities, which has been included by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China as the“12th Five Year Plan” national key book publication planning programme.
OUC President Yang Zhijian has taken the position of chief editor and Vice President Zhang Shaogang the position of associate editor for the Series. For better organization and implementation of the study for the series, the university has established an editorial committee consisting of experts in distance education study and practice as well as 13 open study teams made up of researchers and teachers from the OUC system. Thousands of items of research data have been collected in the form of on-site investigations, interviews, academic visits, lectures, international conferences to contribute to the initial outcomes for the Series.
A Study on Korea National Open University has been completed by Yao Laiyan, Sun Hongfei from the OUC, and Huang Shengtian from Beijing Open University in collaboration, which presents a comprehensive introduction and analysis of Korea National Open University in terms of its organizational structure, operational mechanism, teacher management, courses and teaching, management and services, resources and environments, quality assurance and evaluation, scientific research etc., as well as providing detailed comparisons to raise constructive suggestions and inspiration for the construction of open universities in China.
