In order to encourage the cultural development of the Open University of China(OUC) and promote Red Culture, the OUC Research and Development Centre for Digital Learning organized and held a symposium on “Educational Culture Highway Xibaipo - Beijing” at Xibaipo on March 24th, 2015.

 

Mr. Zhang Shaogang, Vice President of the OUC, along with Mr. Liu Xiaopin, Party Secretary of Hebei Radio and Television University (RTVU), Mr .Dong Zhaowei, President of Hebei RTVU, Mr. Ji Xianpin, Deputy Party Secretary of Hebei RTVU, Mr. Chen Mingwen,Vice President of Hunan RTVU, and Mr. Duan Yanfeng, Curator of Xibaipo Memorial, attended the conference.

The educational culture highway uses modern Chinese history as its focal point and relies on veteran cadres to narrate historical events, it also includes descriptions and introductions of museum artifacts by various researchers and personnel. It links the history of the Chinese people’s revolution, construction, reform and opening up with the excellent culture of the Chinese nation via a “Historical Cultural Highway”, which travels the entire country. Mr. Zhang Shaogang said that it was an information highway bearing rich history and culture. By utilizing video, audio, and image products made through modern information technology, it passes on the glorious history of the Chinese nation and splendid Chinese civilization, unfurls China's historic scroll of the struggles and triumphs of the Chinese people, and memorializes the Chinese Communist Party’s great achievements and the fruitful results of socialist modernization.

Attendees from Hebei, Hunan, Shandong, and Shanghai held discussions over the implementation of the project. Aiming at Xibaipo, the first station of the culture highway, the personnel showed the achievements of the preliminary work. Software featuring 3D games, which was developed and compiled by the Engineering Centre and utilizing the video resources of “Selecting Xibaipo as the Site”, presented in the form of animation, gained unanimous praise from the participants. In addition, attendees also discussed various video formats and the target audience of the application based on the series of scripts entitled “Chairman Mao Sleeps Over at Shulv Village When ‘Going to Beijing to Take the Imperial Examination’”, and “Breaking ‘Digging-heart Trick’Skillfully”, centred around Xibaipo’s important events and typical stories. A consensus was reached on the implementation path of the overall project, especially the working procedure, task assignment, and timeline for “Xibaipo: Where New China Came From”.
