Brief Introduction:
Lomonosov Moscow State University, founded in 1755 on the initiative of Academician Mikhail Lomonosov, retains its role of a major center of learning and research as well as an important cultural center. Its academics and students follow the long-standing traditions of the highest academic standards and democratic ideals.
The university is a self-governing body operating under its own Charter and the laws of the Russian Federation. MSU is a centre of research science famous for its major scientific schools. There have been 11 Nobel Prize winners among its professors and alumni, out of 18 Russians who have received the prestigious prize so far. Among those who teach and do research at MSU there are 2,500 higher doctoral degree holders and almost 6,000 holders of candidate degrees, the total number of professors and instructors being about 5,000. It offers training in almost all branches of modern science and humanities. Its undergraduates may choose one of 128 qualifications in its 39 faculties, while post-graduate students may specialise in 18 branches of science and humanities and in 168 different areas. The total number of MSU students exceeds 40,000; besides, about 10,000 high school students attend various clubs and courses at MSU.
Cooperation with the OUC
On the afternoon of February 26, 2016, in the company of Chairman of Russia-China Cultural Education Development Foundation Cui Shan and the delegation, Vice President of Lomonosov Moscow State University Yuri Mazei visited the Open University of China (OUC).The OUC President Yang Zhijian, Vice President Zhang Shaogang, Liu Chen, General Manager of the OUC Publishing and Media Group, and President of China Central Radio and Television University Press Yang Xiaotang attended the reception.
Lomonosov Moscow State University Vice President Yuri Mazei visited the history exhibition entitled “Deep Integration of Information Technology and Education-- from Radio and Television University to the Open University of China”; Learner Support Centre (Student Affairs Department); library; and Chinese Language Centre. He also discussed “school cooperation” with the leaders of the OUC.
On 15th September, a five-person delegation headed by Li Ling, vice president of the Open University of China visited Lomonosov Moscow State University and signed with its vice president Mazei Yuri a Strategic Cooperative Agreement Between Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Open University of China. According to the agreement, the two universities decided to jointly develop a series of public Russian language courses, which will integrate both online and offline studies, and introduce a certificate system for “Russian Language Examinations for Foreign Students”’ in the curriculum design. After completing the courses, the students will receive Russian language certificates recognised by both Russia and China. The two parties will also cooperate on digital learning resources and a non-degree training programme. The universities agreed that the cooperation should be implemented in a serious, yet down-to-earth manner to fulfill the objectives specified in the agreement, and lay a sound foundation for long-term cooperation.
