From 10 to 13 November 2022, the finals of the 8th China International “Internet +” College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held online.
Eleven vocational-education projects of the Open University of China (OUC) were entered in the national final, and seven won gold medals in the vocational-education category, breaking the OUC’s record of five gold in the 7th competition.
The competition was launched by Premier Li Keqiang in 2015, and 12 central and local provincial governments, as well as the Ministry of Education, are sponsors. It aims to integrate innovation and entrepreneurship, and stimulate the creativity of young students.
This competition was launched in April of 2022, aiming to be "more Chinese, more international, more educational, more comprehensive, and more innovative". There were approximately 14.5 million participants, 3.4 million entries, and 111 participating countries and regions.
In April 2022, the OUC held a kick-off meeting for the 8th competition through a video conference. Its participants included 47,352 people and 18,570 projects from within its system. 347 projects were shortlisted for the provincial competitions, in which 66 gold, 72 silver, and 134 bronze medals were pocketed - twice as many awards as last year. After the provincial ranking and the national online evaluation, 40 projects qualified for the national competition, with 12 shortlisted for the finals.
This is the third time the OUC has participated in the competition. A leading group was established to make preparations, with Jing Degang, secretary of the Party Committee and president of the OUC, as director, and deputy secretary Liu Xianghong of the Party Committee of the OUC as deputy director. All branches and schools took part, selecting projects based on high standards and strict requirements in an effort to promote the capacity for innovation of OUC students.
