In the finals of the 7th China International Internet Plus College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, held at Nanchang University from 12 to 15 October 2021, the Open University of China (OUC) won five gold medals and eight silver in the Vocational Education category.
The competition attracted more than 9.56 million competitors and 2.28 million projects from 4,347 universities and colleges representing 121 countries and regions. In the Vocational Education category, 50 gold medals were awarded out of more than 3.3 million competitors and 860,000 projects from 2,116 universities and colleges. Among all the 32 vocational colleges receiving gold medals, the OUC won the most, at a tenth of the total. 12 teams from 8 OUC branches participated. Jing Degang, secretary of the Party Committee and president of the OUC, visited the competition to cheer the competitors on.
Following the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Holding the 7th China International Internet-plus College-student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, in April 2021 the OUC declared its participation, and on 22 April began preparations.
From the launch of the competition, branches nationwide held work meetings to bring together teachers and students and organise projects. 32 branches as well as the Experimental School organised school-level competitions, in which 281 branch schools participated. With the collaboration of the headquarters, branches, branch schools, and study centres, 9,486 projects with 24,801 participants were set up.
