Xu Mingming has been teaching for nearly 20 years and has been a class supervisor in open education for eight, leading a total of 31 classes and 935 students.
Being a class supervisor is hard and repetitive, but fills her with happiness.
Fully Dedicated to Education
Over her years of teaching she has remained committed to the educational guidance of the Party, and the task of transmitting political and ideological teaching to her students along with ethical principles, using the internet to conduct group study and exchanges, and selecting topics close to the lives of her students, which they are eager to discuss. She links traditional Chinese culture to politics and ideology, taking festivals as occasions to emphasise this, and encourages students to participate in educational competitions, focusing not on winning but on positive interactions and opportunities for self-improvement. Her students have won awards and OUC scholarships, and some have even been named "Outstanding Student of the Province".
Dedicated to Education, Building Virtue, and Practice
Education is founded on love and a sense of responsibility.
For her, the task of class supervisor is loving communication, which includes respect and understanding. In adult education, the ages, occupations, backgrounds and levels of students vary greatly, but she has an equal responsibility to all of them. With every new semester, she prepares to welcome the freshmen, sending each student a letter ahead of time to introduce the OUC and create a good first impression. With so many students, QQ and WeChat groups play an essential role, and she is available 24/7 to answer questions. Xia Yan, a Public-service Management major, wrote her: "Ms. Xu, thank you for your care and teaching the last year and a half. However, I may not be able to continue my studies." Xu Mingming immediately called her, and learning of her health and family troubles continued to communicate, while mobilising her classmates to help. As a result, Xia Yan was able to graduate despite spending six months in the hospital. "No student left behind" is her motto, and this is why her class has a 99% registration rate, a 98% graduation rate, and a 0% dropout rate.
Down-to-earth and Innovative
Xu Mingming is meticulously organised, rarely makes mistakes, and takes innovative approaches that enhance efficiency and stimulate enthusiasm, conducting themed activities in the first semester, answering student questions, and discussing learning styles and methods to promote engagement. Her class always has the highest participation rate in online classes, Q&A sessions, and homework, and has maintained a pass rate of over 98% on every final exam.
Heartfelt Devotion
She has found that the students in some majors have very similar academic and work backgrounds, and that these can be used to their collective advantage in terms of both studies and career. She focuses on developing class leaders, and organises activities that increase class cohesion; her Administration, Accounting, Business Management, and Architecture classes have been particularly successful in this regard, with many of the classmates later becoming partners. Having chosen the OUC, they now recommend it to their family and friends. The class supervisor is the school's best promoter.
