As a class supervisor, she is very popular with students; as a subject teacher, she is professional and responsible, with a "student-centred, service-oriented" focus. She is Wang Caiyan from Shenzhen RTVU.
Form a Class Committee and Create a Positive Atmosphere
Wang Caiyan is the supervisor of 30 classes, including Business English (undergraduate level), Social Work (junior college), Social Work (undergraduate), Legal Affairs (junior college), Law (undergraduate), and Human Resources (junior college).
In 2020, she led over 900 students.
She observes her students from the time they first enroll, assessing their personality traits and forming a class committee to enhance cohesion and promote a positive atmosphere.
Serving Students and Resolving their Problems
"A class supervisor’s most important work is serving students," she says.
She plans each semester in detail at its start, and reminds students of important matters such as registration for supplementary examinations, degree examinations, and thesis-revision timetables. Anything the students tend to overlook she stresses repeatedly in class chat (instant messaging) groups, and even makes individual calls to students who are particularly busy.
During the epidemic, Ms. Wang did her best to help students maintain a positive outlook. At the beginning of the school year, she organised a freshman-class meeting via Tencent Conference, introducing the majors, course schedules, and degree requirements, and answering their questions.
When the university organises competitions, she encourages her students to enter them, and urges them to practise diligently. Under her patient guidance, they came second and third in the OUC’s first Writing Competition.
Careful Preparation for Teaching and Ceaseless Pursuit of Excellence
She is not only a supervisor, but also a teacher of College English A and Polytechnic English 4, while also responsible for the development of online resources, carefully setting up teaching plans, leading online discussions, guiding the thesis writing of junior-college students, and conducting surveys.
Teachers are required to be careful, patient and affectionate. She says, "Whenever a student wishes me the best for a holiday, confides in me, or shares his or her joys, I feel gratified. This is the greatest affirmation of my work."
