Du Liqun, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, is head nurse of the AIDS Department of the 4th People’s Hospital in Nanning, Guangxi Province. In 2005, when the hospital set up this department, she requested the position, and has since taken care of over 10,000 patients. In 2015 she was awarded the 45th Nightingale Medal, the highest international award in the nursing profession.
As a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Du Liqun has always been interested in medical issues. Before the opening of the fifth session of the 13th National Committee, she conducted many surveys on issues of prevention, control, and medication of rare diseases with medical workers, patients, and patient families. Based on her research, she drafted a proposal for strengthening care of patients with rare diseases.
“It is my duty to protect lives as one of many medical workers and as a CPPCC member,” Du Liqun said. Being a CPPCC member, in her view, makes her doubly responsible for protecting the health of citizens.
