Han Zifu entered Shandong Radio and TV University in 1982. At the time, he was in charge of news and photographic reporting for the Propaganda Department of the former Weifang Municipal Committee, Shandong Province.
In 1984, he was transferred to Weifang TV to be director of the Department of Public Information and deputy manager of the station. Weifang News is the top-rated programme on Weifang TV, and a powerful platform for the principles and policies of the Weifang Municipal Committee, the Municipal Government, as well as the public interest. He and his colleagues take seriously their role as mouthpieces of the Party and government, appropriately publicising their policies and initiatives, and he also works hard to help Weifang News maintain its high rating. In 1993, he launched "Weekend Focus", a commentary show broadcasting on prefectural and municipal stations across the province, and the first to introduce the editorial function of print news to TV.
Han Zifu has been active in broadcasting the activities of the Weifang Municipal Committee and Municipal Government as a way of enhancing Weifang TV's popularity. It ranks first in volume of news distribution on both Shandong TV and China Central TV, and has been commended by the Weifang Municipal Committee and Municipal Government. In 1994, he was put in charge of news and publicity at the station, including Weifang News, Weekend Focus and other programmes, and always focused on putting quality first. At the same time, he made efforts to spread local news to both upper-level stations and the outside world. For example, news about important activities of the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, such as "Weifang Successfully Hosted International Kite Fair" and "Strategy for Developing Agricultural Industrialisation of Weifang City", was broadcast during peak viewing hours on CCTV News and China News, and was significant in guiding similar work elsewhere in the country. This was affirmed by the Central Government and Shandong Provincial Party Committee, and the practice popularized throughout the country and the province.
For a TV station to have authority and vitality, it must prioritise quality. To ensure this, Han Zifu does interviews and editing himself, and takes part in planning, organising, learning and communicating with reporters. Between 1994 and 2002, nearly 100 news items were given awards at or above the provincial level, with seven of these awarded first or second news prizes by the national government. One editorial, "Supervision Calls for Strength", came first in the “Good News of the National People’s Congress” competition , the most prestigious award in the 30 years of Weifang TV. The station has also set a record by winning the most news-reporting prizes of TV stations above the municipal level nationwide. The quality of the journalism has grown enormously, and the news reporting of Weifang TV has also become prominent among national, provincial and municipal TV stations.
In 1994, in order to support the development of cultural prosperity in the city, he helped create a show called "Ink and Calligraphy", and to establish the Weifang TV Academy of Calligraphy and Painting. With this, Weifang TV became the first to follow CCTV in this respect. The show and academy together used TV as a medium to introduce more than 500 calligraphers, painters, and their works of art to the general public nationwide. Two national exhibitions of calligraphy and painting were held, and Weifang TV became a platform for calligraphers and painters from the city and even elsewhere in the country, laying a foundation for Weifang to become the "Capital of Chinese Painting".
