Xu Huimin is a professor and doctoral advisor at the Computer Technical Centre of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT). He is now the director of the Computer Technical Centre of the College of Information and Communication Engineering. He graduated from BUPT in 1963 and visited the University of Illinois Department of Computer Science in 1981 and the University of Arizona Department of Electrical Engineering in 1991.
He mainly researches the Internet/wireless Internet applications, embedded systems, IP quality of services, grid computing, P2P technology and J2EE web applications.
He has accomplished a number of projects including an ISP service platform, a mobile communication equipment management system, a 112 fault-handling system, and a Bluetooth testing system. In addition, he has conducted in-depth research in a number of fields, including embedded network communication, optimization of protocol stacks, home gateway applications, embedded task scheduling, P2P file transfers and P2P-based web sharing, with related academic papers published in core journals. Items developed by his laboratory, including teaching management systems, teaching evaluation systems, course management systems, and online teaching platforms, have been or will be applied in the dean’s office and departments. In the “Siemens Cup” Wireless Communication Competition in 2004, the “Multi-access Web Platform in the face of 3G” project submitted by the laboratory won first prize in the enterprise group. Xu is now a member of the council of the National Computer Foundational Teaching Association and a committee member of the Guide and Evaluation Committee of Non-computer Programme Computer Foundational Education Teaching in Beijing Universities.
