Sun Mingquan, master of engineering, professor and postgraduate supervisor, is chief editor of the Hydraulic Structures, Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Works textbooks.

He is devoted to teaching specialized courses and engaging in scientific research work for the Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering programmes. He is now dean of the School of Water Conservancy of North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, and Party Branch Secretary directly subordinate to the Research Institute of Geotechnical Engineering and Hydraulic Structure. He is also a member of the Henan Province Society of Vibration Engineering, chairman of the Specialized Committee of Structural Vibration, vice chairman of the Specialized Committee of Pre-stressed Anchoring Technology of the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, and member of the Academic Board and Academic Degree Committee of North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power. He has successively taken charge of or participated in 25 scientific research tasks for the National Natural Science Foundation, “Seven-Five” projects tackling key problems, and major projects for the Ministry of Water Resources. Many of his research achievements have been highly praised at the national and international level. He has won many province-level and school-level awards for scientific and technological advancement and the creation of economic and social benefit.

In recent years, he has publicly edited, or participated in editing, five monographs and 28 scientific research and teaching research papers, of which 15 were published in core journals including the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, Yellow River and Haihe Water Resources. He won second prize for Excellent Paper on Natural Science in Henan Province and Excellent Paper Award of Henan Society of Water Resources, and first prize for Scientific and Technological Progress (Paper) of North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power.
