Tan Yunming obtained a doctoral degree from Nanjing University and a post-doctorate from Northeast Normal University. He is now deputy director of the Central University of Finance and Economics media economics centre, associate professor of the Department of Journalism and Communication at the Central University of Finance and Economics, and supervisor for postgraduate student in the the media economy programme. He is one of the core experts for the Online Editor Committee of the National Occupation Skill Appraisal Committee; a Computer Education Authentication and Certification (CEAC) expert; founder and editor in chief of China Media Education Network; Hebei Television monitoring expert; and vice president and scretary-general of the Beijing Writing Association.
Other positions he has held include head of the Journalism and Communication Department at the Central University of Finance and Economics, project editor for "New Hundred Thousand Whys" for CCTV, member of the 10th National Journalism Master's Degree Authorization examination communication judging group in 2005. He has worked in newsroom planning for Hunan Daily, China Old News, Hunan Economic TV, Hunan Satellite TV, Jiangsu TV City Channel, and other news media. He participated in the planning of China's Media Conference, China's Financial and Fiscal Media Summit Forum and other large media activities. He has published a total of 89 academic papers, 20 books, and has presided over seven scientific research projects. He has participated in important domestic academic conferences and given 18 speeches as of December 2010. He has instructed seven undergraduate courses and four postgraduate courses.
