Brief Introduction

Traditional Chinese Culture, with its profound history and rich spiritual significance, is an indispensable resource for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. To implement the guidance of the Opinions on the Implementation of China's Excellent Traditional Cultural Heritage and Development Projects issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, the speeches of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the promotion of traditional Chinese culture, and of relevant documents from the Ministry of Education, the Research Centre for the study of traditional Chinese culture of the Open University of China (OUC) was formally established on 30 November 2018.

The centre follows the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and adheres to the principles of "respecting learning, and making it universally beneficial and available". It also seeks to operate on a basis of "openness, responsibility, quality, diversification and internationalisation" and a commitment to applied research. Through its integration with the OUC, the centre focuses on education, research and social services related to traditional Chinese culture on the basis of new media and other new technology, and takes advantage of the commitment of the OUC to providing degree and non-degree continuing education throughout society with the support of modern information technology and a network covering both urban and rural areas, so as to contribute to promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional culture.

The centre employs well-known sinologists from both inside and outside the OUC to conduct research in teams under the guidance of the OUC Education Research Institute. Its current director is Professor Sun Fuwan.
